MomentumdevconThe tidal wave of AI technologies is undeniable and quickly becoming the fabric of modern business. In this provocative keynote, Mike J. Walker challenges technologists to face the great AI reckoning, a fast redistribution of competitive advantage where those who rethink how products are built, how employees are empowered, and how decisions are made, will define the next decade. Those who wait, will fall victim to the AI Reckoning. Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of the five surv
Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how software is designed, written, and delivered. But as AI-generated code becomes a larger part of the development lifecycle, critical questions emerge: How do we ensure quality? Who is responsible when things go wrong? And what role do engineers play when the code they're reviewing wasn't written by a human? Join Fifth Third Bank technology leaders Justin Behymer, Eric Rolf, and Chris Van Dyke for a panel discussion facilitated by Christine Eichhold,
AI can generate code in seconds. We can create features, tests, and pull requests faster than ever. But if writing the code is getting easier, what is the real bottleneck? I’ve seen the challenge shift from generating code to knowing whether that code is actually good. Does it solve the right problem? Does it fit the architecture? Can we trust it in production? As AI helps teams produce more code, testing, review, clear constraints, and human judgment become even more important. In this session,
Spec-driven development flips the traditional workflow on its head: instead of code being the source of truth, the specification becomes the backbone of design, collaboration, and delivery. In this session, we’ll explore how GitHub Spec-Kit enables teams to treat specifications as first-class artifacts—living documents that drive architecture, implementation, and verification. You’ll learn how Spec-Kit helps teams clearly express intent using structured, version-controlled specs that live alongs
Every AI demo is impressive on the first pass. However, production deployment eventually hits one key question: “How does it remember what I need it to?” Much of this is really a consequence of the architecture. LLMs can reason remarkably well within a context window but they don't accumulate knowledge or trust over time. On the other hand, users are increasingly expecting exactly that. At Breadkrumb, an AI-powered travel platform, memory is core to our architecture. Building that in production
Let's talk user experience. Windows 11? Inconsistent. Liquid Glass? Difficult. Flat web design? Bland. Desktop apps? Slow. In an age of advanced computing power, high-end displays, and sophisticated design systems, why does software feel increasingly frustrating to use? While we rush to optimize software and websites for visual trends, engagement metrics, and AI, foundational Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) principles are being cast aside. This talk revisits core HCI fundamentals (such as disco
The AI space moves faster than anyone can keep up with. A model you evaluated three months ago is obsolete, a best practice you wrote down last quarter is already wrong, and there's a new tool every week claiming to change everything. This is a practical talk about staying current without burning out, from someone who's spent the last year keeping a development team's AI tooling from going stale. We'll separate signal from noise: which changes genuinely matter to your work and which are hype you
Velocity is useful, but it is not leadership. Most organizations either stop at team velocity and “gut feel,” or they overcorrect into individual scoreboards that erode trust and create perverse incentives. This talk shares a pragmatic middle path: how engineering leaders can use metrics to understand delivery health, code quality, and collaboration, without turning measurement into micromanagement. I built an internal metrics web application that connects to common systems like code repositorie
Arr matey! The downstream servers are firing errors like cannonballs—500s everywhere. The database is sinking, and the API gateway seems lost in a fog of timeouts. We attempted to engineer an application for calm seas and instead find ourselves in a maelstrom. Instead, what if we engineered the chaos ourselves and could predict failures? In .NET applications, we have a solution for instability and injecting it: Polly. In this session, we will dive into the depths of chaos engineering, introducin
I keep forgetting to water my plants. In this talk, I'll walk through building a practical garden watering assistant in Python. A small app that knows your plants, checks the forecast, and tells you whether to grab the hose. No cloud subscriptions, no smart home hardware, just Python doing something genuinely useful. We'll cover: - Modeling your garden with a simple data structure and JSON file - Fetching real local weather data using Open-Meteo (free, no API key required) - Writing the logic th
AI is here, but deciding what to use and how is difficult. In this fast-paced session, we'll explore key decisions for coding effectively in AI including IDEs, models, harnesses, instructions, permissions, agents, and more. You'll leave this session with a variety of ideas for how to rethink your AI-related tooling, patterns, and workflows.
Modern society is drowning in information scattered across meetings, documents, conversations, notifications, and random thoughts. We're expected to absorb more, remember more, and respond faster—while somehow remaining present for the people and work in front of us. This talk shows how I built a comprehensive digital brain that captures the information I don't want to lose—meeting transcripts, voice memos, PDFs, links, conversations—and makes it all queryable through natural language. What star
Most cloud services follow the same architectural patterns, yet engineers still hand‑assemble Terraform code for each of them. In this session, based on real work done in production, you’ll see how documented architecture can become a machine‑readable contract, how opinionated modules act as guardrails, and how AI can handle the repetitive translation work without replacing human judgment. We’ll walk through a live, end‑to‑end demo that starts with a documented service architecture and ends with
